HISTORY OF NATUROPATHY
1. Naturopathy
originated 2500 years ago. It was at the time of Hippocrates People
regarded him as the father of modern medical science.
2. Physis
means Nature. This is a Greek word. From here came

3. Present
movement of Naturopathy may be traced to Dr.Vincenz Priesnitz of
Germany. He established a sanatorium at Grafenburg in Germany. He
himself suffered illness for years. His success with hydrotherapy
spread his fame far and wide. Further Dr. Priesnitz believed that
the cause of disease lies solely in the accumulation of poisons in
the body as a result of a wrong way in life. Another Dr. Johannes
Schroth established another Sanatorium in Czechoslovakia. He treated
“Duke”. Among the outstanding healers was Dr.Arnold Rickley. He
established the importance of air and sunlight in addition to water
and diet. He believed constipation to be the root of all disorders.
He was strict vegetarian.
4. Dr.
Louis Kohne of Germany was one of the greatest exponents of Nature
Cure. He was seriously ill at the age of twenty. After years of
trying various medicines he turned to Naturopathy and was cured.
“All diseases originate in the accumulation of poisons in the body,
all diseases are fundamentally the same”.
5. Another
German Doctor, Dr. Adolf Just, his book, “Return to Nature” became
very popular.

In America
the movement was laid by Dr.James C.Jackson. He suffered from severe
disorder and was cured by Naturopathy.
7.
Another American
Dr. Russell Trall. He turned to naturopathy though initially
practiced modern medicine system.

Dr.J.H. Kellogg
of U.S.A. is an ardent supporter of hydropathy, sun-bathing,
physiotherapy etc.

Dr.
Henry Lindlar of America put forward the principle that every acute
disease was merely the sign of or the manifestation of, the healing
powers of Nature. This is one of the basic of Naturopathy.

One of the greatest exponent of Naturopathy in United States was
Dr.J.H.Tilden. He established “If one gives up harmful habits and
erroneous ways of life, and adopts a proper life style, good health
is the inevitable result”.

Dr. Bernarr McFadden, his great work ”The Encyclopaedia of Health”
is popular. This book gives every aspect of Nature Cure.

Dr. Benedict Lust was proponent of Juice Therapy.

Mahatma Gandhi, Mr. Morarji Desai, Dr. Kul Ranjan Mukherjee, Dr.
Vitthaldas Modi and many others were great exponent of Naturopathy.

Magnetotherapy, Acupressure, Su-Jok, Shiatsu, Reflexology and other
similar systems can be considered to be parts of Nature Cure system
of therapeutics. This makes Nature Cure system wide and multi facets
and able to of cure number of Acute and Chronic disorders.
