ACUPRESSURE

Some frequently asked questions(FAQs) on Acupressure & their answers are given below for the benefit of all viewers

Q.1  What is the difference between Western medicine & oriental  medicine?  How acupressure treatment help?

ANS.   The western medicine tackle only the symptom whereas oriental practitioners, by contrast, look for a complete picture of their patient.  This is known as the “pattern of disharmony”.  This is  built by close observation of the patient.  The most fundamental concept of oriental medicine is that your body, mind and spirit are interdependent.  They affect one another at all levels.  The acupressure treatment helps to restore the harmony of the body, mind and spirit.  This is one of the oriental Therapies widely used.

Q.2  What is the importance of Energy?

ANS.  The flow of vital energy is essential for our health.  The Chinese call this energy Qi or Chi or Pran in India.  This Qi supplies our organs, Blood and other Body fluids as well as the Mind.  If our body is in good health the Qi flows abundantly and smoothly,if this energy Qi  is blocked and becomes defiant, then disease starts appearing.  The Acupressure treatment unblocks the congested Qi, strengthens weak Qi and calm overactive Qi.

Q.3  What are channels?

ANS.  As per oriental theory Qi circulates along the channels.  The channels are close to the body’s surface.  There are eight Regulatory channels.  They harmonise all the internal organs and functions of the body.  There are twelve (12) organ meridians connected to important organs.  Let us think as twelve organ meridians as rivers flowing through the body and the eight Regulatory channels are the lakes or the reservoirs of energy which balance these rivers. The organ meridians flow continuously; the Regulatory channels flow when necessary to normalise accesses and deficiencies.  In acupressure by applying pressure on these meridians points the smooth flow of Qi, is achieved.

Q.4  What are Yin & Yang?

ANS.  The Qi is composed of both Yin & Yang .  Yin is negative or feminine aspect, cool, calm & peaceful like moon.  Yang is male, hard and aggressive energy like sun.  Both must be in balance.  Deficiency or Excess of both cause disharmony.

Q.5  What are pressure points?

ANS.  Pressure points or acupoints (the points used in acupressure) are the gateways to the channels.  Here the Qi in the channels comes close to the skin and can be manipulated using acupressure.  The shape of these pressure points should not be thought of in physical terms, it can only be described in terms of Energy.  Imagine them shaped like a vase with a neck and mouth narrow than the base.

Q.6  What is Reflexology?

ANS  Reflexology is a form of treatment where treatment involved is to give pressure to all of the areas of feet.  In feet and hand, there are reflex areas which relate to all parts of the body.  In fact, the feet as a whole corresponds to the whole body.  Similar reflex areas exist in hands.  The hands can be used for treatment also though the feet are usually preferred for treatment.  The feet offer a larger area to be treated and since they are generally protected by shoes and shocks they present a more sensitive area for treatment than hands.

Q.7  What is the method for applying the pressure? How much pressure should be applied?

ANS  The pressure is to be applied intermittently like pumping and generally continued pressure is avoided.  Duration for the action is for 1 to 2 minutes.  The pressure to be applied should be just enough to be able to feel it.

Q.8   What are the benefit of Acupressure?

ANS  Acupressure helps in three ways

(1)        Prevention of diseases  (2) Early diagnosis of diseases  (3) Cure of diseases.

Q.9  How to maintain good health?

ANS.  It  is observed that all the points on palms are upto 1 inch of the wrist.  Pressure may be applied on different points without bothering where they are situated.  By pressing both the palms or soles for five minutes each, all points may be covered.  This will stimulate all organs.  This is similar to complete alignment of Car.

Q.10  How to do diagnosis?

ANS.  By pressing all the points we may diagnose.  When there is no pain on any point it means good health.  If by pressing we find pain on any point, this is indication of disturbance.  This is clear sign that a disturbance has started developing.  The disease is reflected as pain on the point.  Thus we may become our own Doctor and can diagnose, the disease instantly    without any cost or laboratory tests.  This method of diagnosis is a unique feature of this therapy.

Q.11  How to cure a disease?

As a layman, one need not bother to know the name of disease.  Once pain is observed in diagnosis, the mantra is to press is out.  The pressure is applied for 2 minutes at a time only on the points where it pains.  Repeat this 3 times during 24 hours.  The treatment is continued till pain is felt on that point.  When the pain is removed, the disease is also removed with it and you are cured.

Q.12   What are side effects?

ANS  There are no side effects.  This treatment is safe.  This can be taken as daily routine and make it a life style.
